 Working-Showing Trophy

The SHCA’s Working-Showing Trophy was instituted in the early 1960s. It is awarded annually to celebrate the versatility of the Siberian Husky as a multi-purpose dog. This award recognizes a kennel’s ability to produce Siberians who can compete successfully in harness (i.e., sled dog racing) as well as in the conformation, obedience, rally, and agility rings.

NOTE: Tracking competition/titles are not included at this time.

The Working-Showing trophy is presented as a kennel award; as such, an applicant may submit points for any dogs owned or co-owned in his/her application, regardless of whether the applicant was the handle/driver in competition.

Rules and Eligibility:

  1. General Rule/Eligibility Information:

    1. Applicant must be a member in good standing of the SHCA for the entire period for which the member is applying.

    2. The trophy will be awarded for one year's competition, beginning April 1st and ending March 31st of the following year. Only dogs exhibited, worked, and raced during that period are eligible.

    3. Application must be postmarked by July 1 of the year in which the award is applied for.

    4. Any dog used for point accumulation must be owned or co-owned by the applicant for the entire period for which the member is applying.

    5. Neither showing nor racing should have an advantage. Total points accumulated must reflect 50% from shows or trials and 50% from races.

    6. In order for the Working-Showing Trophy to be awarded in any year, there must be at least three (3) applicants for the trophy, OR an application must have a minimum of 500 accumulated points. Example: If only two (2) applications for the Working-Showing trophy are received in a single year, both applications must include a minimum of 500 accumulated points. If one application is submitted with less than 500 points accumulated, that application will not be considered; if neither application includes 500 points accumulated, the Working-Showing Trophy will not be awarded for that year.

  2. Rules/Eligibility for Sled Dog Races:

    1. A race is a one-or-more-day competition, on snow with sleds, held in the United States or Canada and held by a recognized Race Giving Organization (RGO).

    2. For each sled dog race used in an application, the applicant's team must consist entirely of purebred Siberian Huskies.

    3. The team does not need to be driven by the applicant; however, the applicant must own or co-own any dog(s) used for point accumulation.

    4. The minimum number of dogs on a team is four (4).

    5. The minimum mileage for races used in an application is four (4) miles per day.

    6. Each dog within a team must be registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) or its national equivalent, such as the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC). AKC PAL (ILP) program dogs are not eligible.

    7. Points may be only be accumulated for dog(s) that have raced on a team in 50% or more of the races listed on an application. Example: If you list five (5) races on your application, only dogs on teams running in three (3) or more of those races may be used to accumulate points.

    8. An SHCA Certified Race Results Form must be submitted for every race included on an application.


  3. Rules/Eligibility for Show Events:

    1. A “show event” is a one-or-more-day conformation, companion, or performance event held under the auspices of the American Kennel Club. Points are accumulated for each show event.

    2. Dogs used for point accumulation do not need to be handled by the applicant in a show event, except where required by the AKC for eligibility in that class.

    3. All dogs used for point accumulation must be owned or co-owned by the applicant in the year for which the award is applied.

    4. Each show event used for an application must be accompanied by proof of competition as printed from the AKC.org website. http://www.akc.org/events/

Sled-dog-racing points are awarded to each dog used in the application (“competing dog”) as follows:

  1. Each competing dog must complete the entire race course, running in the team.

  2. Each competing dog will be awarded 25 points for each race.

  3. Lombard-Norris (LN) points for each race may also be added to each competing dog’s total, if properly documented as per LN rules by the applicant.

  4. Each competing dog receives an additional 5 points for existing AKC or SHCA title(s) it has received (multiple titles are counted cumulatively).

As the applicant, you must submit the following paperwork:

  1. A copy of AKC (or equivalent) registration for each dog on a team to validate the animal is a purebred Siberian Husky and owned or co-owned by you during the race season.

  2. An SHCA Certified Race Results Form for each race.

  3. A document (spreadsheet, etc.) that clearly shows each dog's points. For clarity, you may want to list each dog's race points separately.

Conformation, Obedience, Rally and Agility points are awarded to each dog used in the application as follows:

Conformation Points

·        3 points for 4th in a class of 6 or more

·        5 points for 3rd in a class of 5 or more

·        10 points for 2nd in a class of 4 or more

·        15 points for 1st in a class of 3 or more

·        5 additional points for Reserve Winners

·        20 additional points for Winners

·        25 additional points for Best of Winners

·        40 additional points for Best of Opposite Sex

·        50 additional points for Best of Breed

·        15 additional points for Group 4

·        25 additional points for Group 3

·        35 additional points for Group 2

·        50 additional points for Group 1

·        50 additional points for Select dog or bitch at the SHCA National Specialty

·        25 additional points for Select dog or bitch at an area specialty

·        10 additional points for Select dog or bitch at an all-breed show

·        45 additional points for an Award of Merit at the SHCA National Specialty

·        20 additional points for an Award of Merit at an area specialty

·        50 additional points for Best in Sled Dog Classes at the SHCA National Specialty

·        25 additional points for Best in Sled Dog Classes at an area specialty

·        60 additional points for Reserve Best in Show at an all-breed show

·        75 additional points for Best in Show at an all-breed show

Obedience Points

·        15 points for 4th place in a class of 6 or more

·        5 points for 4th place in a class of less than 6

·        25 points for 3rd place in a class of 6 or more

·        10 points for 3rd place in a class of less than 6

·        35 points for 2nd place in a class of 6 or more

·        15 points for 2nd place in a class of less than 6

·        50 points for 1st place in a class of 6 or more

·        20 points for 1st place in a class of less than 6

·        75 additional points for High in Trial

·        50 additional points for any leg (maximum 3 legs/title) obtained in Novice A/B competition

·        75 additional points for any leg (no limit) obtained in Open A/B competition

·        100 additional points for any leg (no limit) obtained in Utility A/B competition

Agility Points

·        10 points for 4th place

·        15 points for 3rd place

·        20 points for 2nd place

·        25 points for 1st place

·        75 additional points for High in Trial

·        50 additional points for any leg (maximum 3 legs/title) obtained toward any the following titles:

o   NA

o   OA

o   AZ

o   NJ

o   OJ

o   AJ

·        20 additional points for any leg (no limit) obtained toward any of the following titles:

o   MX

o   MXJ

o   MACH

Rally Points

·        5 points for 4th place in a class of 6 or more

·        3 points for 4th place in a class of less than 6

·        10 points for 3rd place in a class of 6 or more

·        5 points for 3rd place in a class of less than 6

·        15 points for 2nd place in a class of 6 or more

·        10 points for 2nd place in a class of less than 6

·        20 points for 1st place in a class of 6 or more

·        15 points for 1st place in a class of less than 6

·        50 points for High in Trial

·        15 additional points for any leg (maximum 3 legs/title) obtained in Novice A/B competition

·        25 additional points for any leg (no limit) obtained in Advanced A/B or Excellent A/B competition

As the applicant, you must submit the following paperwork for each dog used in your application:

A document for each dog with name and date of each show event being used for points, as well as the dog’s result (placement, score, etc.). Please include a hyperlink to event results as they appear on the AKC.org website.
