Free CHIC DNA Banking Program and CHIC DNA Banking Clinics

The SHCA has a program that supports the FREE banking of Siberian Husky DNA via the CHIC DNA Repository.

ANY AKC registered Siberian Husky may participate in this program. The dog must reside in the USA and the DNA has to be banked via blood to qualify for this program. The more DNA which is banked the more information researchers will have to work with and help our breed; this will also help all dog breeds and possibly humans.

THREE WAYS TO PARTICIPATE
1. CHIC Banking Clinic at the SHCA National Specialty
2. CHIC DNA Banking Clinics at regional specialty club, kennels - send an email to shcaDNAbank@gmail.com (with “CHIC DNA clinic” in the subject line) to see if one can be arranged for your club or kennel

3. Individuals may submit DNA sample(s) via Blood Sample via the following procedure:

  1. Send an email to shcaDNAbank@gmail.com with “CHIC DNA banking #” in the subject line)

  2. Genetics and Health Chairman will send a code to use on your CHIC DNA Repository application form(s) Then go to https://www.ofa.org/about/dna-repository and follow the directions for “Submission by Blood Sample”. Be sure to check off the Submission by Blood Collection Kit and write in the number code you were supplied with next to it.

  3. You will be responsible for getting the blood sample drawn (explain what the blood sample is for and your veterinarian may draw it for free) and mailing the sample(s) in. There is no limit on how many dogs you may sign up for this program. Again, this ONLY applies if the DNA is banked by blood - NOT by cheek swabs.
