The Siberian Husky Club of America, Inc.

The Siberian Husky Club of America. The SHCA is the AKC recognized national breed club, founded in 1938, and has a membership consisting of established breeders, exhibitors, fanciers, and sled dog racing enthusiasts.

As stated in its constitution, the objects of the Club are:

  • To do all possible to bring the natural qualities of the pure-bred Siberian Husky to perfection through selective breeding;

  • To encourage the organization of independent local Siberian Husky Specialty Clubs in those localities where there are sufficient fanciers of the breed to meet the requirements of The American Kennel Club;

  • To educate members and to urge breeders to adhere to the standard of the breed as approved by The American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Siberian Huskies shall be judged;

  • To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed through a code of ethics and o encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, sled dog races, and obedience trials;

  • To conduct sanctioned matches and specialty shows only under the rules of The American Kennel Club.

  • The Siberian Husky Club of America, Inc. annually hosts a National Specialty and Annual Meeting. Held in the Autumn, this nearly-week-long event moves around the country each year. The SHCA National is a Specialty Show and Obedience Trial, an educational opportunity, and many more activities. Elsewhere on this site, you will find information about the SHCA Nationals planned for the coming years. All SHCA events are open to members and non-members alike, and everyone is welcome to attend.

Additionally, SHCA offers educational opportunities in its publications (many of which are on this site), through other publications (such as the Newsletter and Annual Directory, both available through the Club), and through Judges' Study Groups and general educational seminars. SHCA offers support to local Siberian rescue organizations through the efforts of the Siberian Rescue Committee. Additionally, it confers many Sled Dog degrees on Siberians completing the requirements for this SHCA performance program. And, SHCA offers the Siberian Husky Ophthalmic Registry for ACVO cleared Siberians.
