Futurity Stakes
Purpose, Rules & Regulations
Purpose: The purpose
of these SHCA National Specialty Futurity Stakes shall be to encourage and
reward the breeding of the best possible Siberian Husky. Such recognition
is important to the breed and these stakes will not only reward the efforts
of the breeder but also the owners in whose hands lie the responsibility of
developing the inherited potentialities. Recognition is also given to the
Sire of the dogs for his contribution to the breeding.
Rules and Regulations
of Futurity Stakes:
- All Futurity Stakes
shall be held in connection with only the National Specialty of the Siberian
Husky Club of America. The Futurity Stakes will not be held at any other
SHCA or non-SHCA sanctioned function. The Stakes classes are a non-regular
class in conjunction with the SHCA National Specialty.
- Eligibility of dog:
- The breeder of
the litter must nominate the litter at the time of breeding. Each individual
puppy from the litter shall be eligible to compete in the Futurity Stakes
held on or after the date they will reach six (6) months of age.
- Each nomination
must meet all time restrictions in order to be considered legitimate
nominations. Only dogs that actually compete in the stakes for which
they are eligible can win any stakes money and/or prizes.
How to Nominate a Dam:
- Nomination forms will
be provided by the Futurity Chairperson.
- Forms shall be submitted
to the Futurity Chairperson by the breeder or co-breeder of the litter;
and this person(s) must be a member in good standing of the Siberian Husky
Club of America for at least six months prior to the date of nomination.
The nominator must also be a member of the Siberian Husky Club of America
at the time of the Futurity Stakes judging.
- At the time of breeding
and before whelping the dam is nominated by sending a completed dam nomination
form to the stakes committee bearing a postmark date prior to date of whelp.
- Fee for nominating
a dam shall be $15 for SHCA members and $25 for non-members, and may be revised. There shall be no refunds given
for ANY reason.
- Upon receipt of the
dam Nomination Form, the Stakes Committee shall send to the breeder, preferably
by electronic mail, the following: Dam Control Number (to be used on Litter/Puppy
Nomination Forms), and a Litter Nomination Form.
How to Nominate a Litter:
- Forms shall be submitted
to the Futurity Chairperson by the breeder or co-breeder of the litter,
and said person must be a member in good standing of the Siberian Husky
Club of America for at least six months prior to the date of nomination.
The nominator must be a member of the Siberian Husky Club of America at
the time of Futurity judging.
- Completed Litter Nomination
Form and check or money order made payable to the Siberian Husky Club of
America (SHCA) must be received by the Futurity Chairperson bearing a post-mark
date of no later than eight (8) weeks after whelping date of the litter
being nominated.
- Fee for nominating
a litter shall be $30.00, and may be revised. There shall be no refunds
given for ANY reason.
- All puppies in a nominated
litter shall be eligible for Futurity competition, but individual puppies
must be nominated before the age of 4 months by the actual owner.
- Upon receipt of a
Litter Nomination Form, the Futurity Chairperson shall send the breeder
preferably by electronic mail, an acknowledgment of receipt and copy(s)
of the Puppy Nomination Form.
Individual Puppy Nomination
Form:
- The owner of an individual
puppy must nominate that puppy before the age of four (4) months and will
need to complete a Puppy Nomination Form supplied by the breeder. Owner
does not have to be a member of the SHCA.
- Puppy Nomination Forms
shall be returned to the Futurity Chairperson and must be postmarked, on
or before eight (8) weeks prior to the date of the Futurity Stakes competition
at which it will first be eligible.
- Puppy Nomination Fee
shall be ten ($10.00) dollars and may be revised.
How to Enter a Dog
for Futurity Stakes Judging:
- A dog must be entered
in a regular class at the SHCA National Specialty and/or Obedience Trail,
for which it is also eligible for Futurity Stakes competition. The entry
fee for said regular class must be paid and accepted as a valid entry fee
by the superintendent/show secretary responsible for taking said entries.
- The Futurity Stakes
entry shall be listed on the official AKC entry form for this Specialty
and Obedience Trail as an Additional Class. Fee for this class shall be
determined by the show committee but shall not exceed $20.00. This fee is
for the purpose of paying AKC and superintendent fees, with remainder going
to SHCA. The Additional Class must include the appropriate age division
as described in #3 below.
- Futurity Stakes competition
shall be divided into four (4) age divisions as follows: 6-9, 9-12, 12-15,
and 15 months and over. Each age division is further divided by sex. The
reason for classification for 15 months and over is due to a puppy that
will only be five months of age at the next Specialty, would conceivably
be up to 19 months of age due to the "floating schedule" for National Specialties.
Procedures for Judging
the Futurity Stakes:
- The Judge shall judge
the Male entry for the 6-9 division first, then the Female entry for the
same, and shall continue in this manner until all age divisions have been
judged, making four placements for each sex, if possible.
- After completion of
all age divisions for both sexes, the first place winners of both sexes
for the 6-9 and 9-12 month age divisions shall enter the ring and compete
for Best Futurity Junior Puppy. The same procedure shall be used to judge
the 12-15 and 15 month-and-over class first place winners with the judge
selecting the Best Futurity Senior Puppy.
- The Best Futurity Junior
Puppy and Best Futurity Senior Puppy shall then compete for the Grand Futurity
winner.
How the Futurity Stakes
Monies are Distributed:
- Two stakes will be
created for the Futurity - one exclusively for the junior puppy competition
and one solely for senior puppy dogs. Nomination fees received from the
breeders and owners of bitches and puppies eligible for competition in the
puppy classes, will become part and parcel of a Stake to be used for the
puppy classes only; and similarly like fees, received from breeders and
owners of puppies subsequently eligible in the senior puppy classes, will
become part and parcel of a Stake to be used for the senior puppy.
- The Cash Stakes for
the Puppy Competition will be divided as cash awards as herein below set
forth:
CASH PRIZES FOR EACH CLASS
First Prize: $15.00
Second Prize: $12.00
Third Prize: $9.00
Fourth Prize: $6.00
CASH PRIZES FOR BEST JUNIOR PUPPY/RESERVE PUPPY
Breeder of the Futurity Winner Junior: 50%
Owner of the Futurity Winner Junior: 30%
Sire of the Futurity Winner Junior: 20%
- Said percentage will
be calculated on the total monies received from all nomination fees for
the Junior Dog Competition after first deducting 20% for expenses and 10%
for award to the Grand Futurity Dog.
- Senior Puppy Cash
Stakes will be as above, with percentage calculated on the total monies
received for the Senior Puppy Classes.
- The Best Futurity
Junior Puppy and the Best Futurity Senior Puppy will compete for Grand Futurity
Winner. The cash awards for this competition will be divided as follows:
CASH PRIZES FOR GRAND FUTURITY WINNER
Breeder of the Grand Futurity Winner: 50%
Owner of the Grand Futurity Winner: 30%
Sire of the Grand Futurity Winner 20%
How Trophies and Ribbons
will be Offered:
The SHCA shall offer a
rosette as well as flat ribbons for each age division and for the Best Futurity
Junior Puppy, Best Futurity Senior Puppy, and Grand Futurity Winner. Other
rosettes and/or trophies may be offered at the discretion of the National
Specialty Show Chairperson and the Futurity Chairperson.
